Mr. Kane (56) was appointed Chief Executive Officer and a Director of eircom plc in April 1994 and is also Chairman of Eircell and eircom International. An honours graduate in electrical engineering from Queen's University, Belfast with a post-graduate diploma in business studies from London.

Mr Kane has more than 25 years experience in the telecommunications industry. Prior to taking up his appointment with eircom plc, he was Director of Operations in the Worldwide Networks Division of British Telecom. From 1984 to 1988 he was Chief Executive of British Telecom in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Kane is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers in Ireland and of the Irish Academy of Engineering.

He is Deputy Vice President of Dublin Chamber of Commerce and a Council Member of IBEC (Irish Business and Employers Confederation) and the Irish Management Institute. He is President of Glencree National Centre for Peace and Reconciliation and a member of the Board of Trustees of Dublin City University.

He is married to Isobel with two daughters Lesley and Christine.
