Paul P. Koenderman is President, Babcock & Wilcox Industries Ltd. (BWIL), headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario. BWIL manufactures nuclear and fossil fuel power generation boilers and components for the Canadian and export markets. BWIL also provides nuclear and fossil boiler equipment full service and construction for the Canadian marketplace.
Koenderman also serves as senior vice president, B&W Canada, for The Babcock & Wilcox Company based in Barberton, Ohio, a position he has held since August 1996. He was named senior vice president and group executive, Global Marketing & Sales, in August 1995. In June 1993, he was appointed senior vice president and group executive of the Power Generation Group. Prior to this, he was vice president and general manager of Babcock & Wilcox's Fossil Power Division based in Barberton and also held the title of vice president and general manager of Babcock & Wilcox International, a B&W division headquartered in Cambridge, Ontario. He was appointed to these positions in September 1991 and September 1987, respectively. From 1987 to 1991 he also served as president of Babcock & Wilcox Industries Ltd.
Prior to September 1987, Paul was vice president, Marketing & Sales, for B&W International, and in that position was responsible for the Canadian domestic and international marketing and sales activities of Babcock & Wilcox. Before being named vice president in June 1986, he was manager of Marketing & Sales since 1982.
A graduate of the University of Waterloo in Canada, he received his Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971 and completed several masters degree courses at that university.
Koenderman joined B&W as a student engineer in 1969 and two years later became a design engineer in the package boiler department. In 1973, he was assigned as project engineer for industrial and electric utility contracts. He was promoted to senior project manager in 1976 and named manager, Commercial Applications Department in 1978. From 1980 to 1982, he served as manager of the Fossil Equipment Department.
In addition to his responsibilities at Babcock & Wilcox, Koenderman served as chairman of the Canadian Exporters Association from 1988 to 1990. Also, he was chairman of the Canadian Nuclear Association from 1990 to 1991. He currently participates as an active director on several boards of various B&W operating joint venture companies located in North America and overseas.
Babcock & Wilcox is an operating unit of McDermott International, Inc. (NYSE:MDR), a leading worldwide energy services company. McDermott and its subsidiaries manufacture steam-generating equipment, environmental equipment, and products for the U.S. government. They also provide engineering and construction services for industrial, utility and hydrocarbon processing facilities, and to the offshore oil and natural gas industries. Although there are many power generation companies that contain the name Babcock, the U.S.-based Babcock & Wilcox is the original, founded by George Babcock and Stephen Wilcox in 1867.
