Leonid Nevzlin, Former President of the Russian Jewish Congress (RIVERS).

Born in 1959.

His father, Boris Iosifovich Nevzlin (born in 1935), from the Leningrad region, and was an engineer. His mother, Irina Markovna (born in 1938), from Chita, was a teacher. Both were Jews.

In 1976-1981 Nevzlin studied at the Moscow Institute of Petrochemical and Gas Industry at the faculty of Automatics and Computer Facilities, and received a specialization in Systems Engineering.

In 1981-1987, he worked as the programmer in the foreign trade association "Zarubezhgeologiya”, under the Ministry of Geology of the USSR.

In 1987 has became acquainted with Mikhail Hodorkovsky, who at that time headed the Center of Scientific and Technical Creativity of Youth "MENATEP” at Frunze city division of the comsomol organization. Nevzlin became a manager in the contractual department.

At the end of 1988 he was made an assistant to Hodorkovsky.

Until April 1999 he was a member of the board of directors of the " MENATEP " bank.

In 1989-1991 he was president of NTP commercial bank.

From 1991-2001, he has worked in Mikhail Hodorkovsky's structures: "MENATEP", "Rosprom-YUKOS", "YUKOS-Moskva”.

July 1993 - March 2001 he was first assistant to Mikhail Hodorkovsky.

In April 1996 he signed an appeal by 13 businessmen, called " To leave from impasse! ". On July 25, 1996 he received the Order of the President, thanking him for active participation in the organization and realization of the elective campaign of President Yeltsin.

September 1997 - October 1998 - the first assistant to the general director of news agency ITAR-TASS, supervised photo chronicles, economic and analytical blocks of activity in the ITAR-TASS.

Since September 1997 - associate editor of " Echo Planety " magazine.

Works as the President of the Russian Union of Investors and is a member of the Council of Businessmen.

Since September 2000 - the chairman of coordination council of the Congress of the Jewish Religious Communities and Organizations of Russia.

Since March 1, 2001 - acting as the president of the Russian Jewish Congress (RIVERS). Since May 16, 2001 - president of the RIVERS.

Nevzlin has two daughters (one from both marriages): Irina (23 years), Marina (11 years).
