Charles M. Duke Jr., Lunar Module Pilot
Charles M. Duke Jr. was born on October 3, 1935, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
He received a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1957, and an M.S. in aeronautics
and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1964. He
was chosen with the fifth group of astronauts in 1966. He was backup lunar
module pilot on Apollo 13 and Apollo 17 and was the tenth man to walk on the
Moon. He resigned from NASA and the Air Force on January 1, 1976.
