David J. O'Reilly
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer
David J. O'Reilly is chairman of the board and chief executive officer of ChevronTexaco Corp.
Previously, he was chairman of the board and chief executive officer of Chevron Corp., a position he assumed in January 2000. From November 1998 until January 2000, he served as one of the company's two vice chairmen, responsible for Chevron's worldwide exploration and production and corporate human resources.
A native of Dublin, Ireland, O'Reilly earned his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering in 1968 from University College, Dublin, from which he also received an honorary doctor of science degree in June 2002.
Upon graduation, he began his career with Chevron Research Co. as a process engineer. After serving in positions of increasing responsibility, O'Reilly was named general manager of Chevron's refinery at El Segundo, Calif., in 1986. He also served as manager of manufacturing for Chevron Chemical Co.'s Olefins Division in Houston; manager of the Salt Lake Refinery; manager of the Richmond, Calif., agricultural chemicals plant; and on the corporate foreign operations staff. In July 1989, he was elected senior vice president and chief operating officer of Chevron Chemical Co.
In October 1991, O'Reilly was elected a vice president of Chevron Corp., responsible for strategic planning and coordination of the company's quality improvement activities. He also served as a director of Caltex Petroleum Corp., from March 1992 until September 1994. Caltex was a 50-50 joint venture of Chevron and Texaco, with refining and marketing activities throughout the Eastern Hemisphere. With the merger of Chevron and Texaco, Caltex became part of ChevronTexaco Corp.
In September 1994, he was elected president of Chevron Products Co., responsible for the company's U.S. refining and marketing operations. In November 1998, O'Reilly was elected a vice chairman of the board of Chevron Corp.
He assumed his current position upon the formation of ChevronTexaco Corp., Oct. 9, 2001.
O'Reilly is treasurer and a member of the American Petroleum Institute's board of directors, the San Francisco Symphony board of governors and the Bay Area Council. He is a member of the National Petroleum Council, The Business Council, The Business Roundtable, the JPMorgan International Council and the American Society of Corporate Executives.
Mr. O'Reilly was born in January 1947.
